The Joys of Reconnecting
I read this in Canada having been prevented from visiting the Scottish hills for over two years now. This book brought me much serenity as, through reading Heather Dawe's reminiscences, I was able to connect it to my own memories of most of the places mentioned. The writing is very evocative to the extent that you can almost hear the hiss of the gas stove and feel the mountain breeze on your face when she describes a summit bivouac. The book is beautifully illustrated throughout with Heather's own sketches: each of these are so rich in texture that they bring to mind how connected we are to the hills. I could easily have read this in one long sitting but instead took my time , relishing each chapter on a day by day basis. It is a perfect book for anyone who wants to reconnect to the hills.
